Me too! Well, at least that used to be me. I spent many years of my life being and feeling all those things.

As as teen, I engaged in binging and purging.

When I finally stopped in my early 20’s, I began looking into “healthy diets.”

Like so many, I jumped from one diet fad to the next in hopes of finally getting to (insert whatever weight goal I was after at the time).

My decisions were completely misguided, often driven by something some “expert” claimed, beit about carbs, fats, animal protein, and so on.

I was doing too much too fast- cutting out entire food groups- which is unsustainable.

When I learned about calories in foods, I would starve myself pre or post an “indulgent” (aka high calorie) meal, and/or try to “work off” the calories at the gym.

I skipped meals in anticipation of social outings. I felt relief when “cheat day” arrived, and earned “cheat meals,” or got “treats,” if I worked out really hard.

Even when I discovered macro counting, and began incorporating all kinds of foods into my diet (as in, way of eating), I still found myself being really rigid.

I thought I had finally learned to eat smarter, not less.

But I was so hard on myself if I was over, or under for the day, feeling guilty or ashamed of somehow still failing.

It was stressful.

My mental health was deteriorating.

I was having anxiety around meal time.

All of it left me overwhelmed and miserable.

And honestly, I was just exhausted.

Eating healthy should NOT be stressful or be something you dread.

It should NOT be something you feel guilty about or ashamed of if you “mess up.”

This was when I decided to take a step back and really examine my mindset, mentality, and psychology around eating. I realized that even when I was “eating clean,” I was still engaging in disordered eating patterns.

Our relationship with food is a direct reflection of our relationship to ourselves.

It took me some time to understand that people who have spent years trying to figure out the “right” way to eat, have a long history of an unhealthy relationship with food, or a history of poor quality foods, need more than just macros, or just a caloric deficit, or a cookie-cutter program.

That’s not how habits work.

That’s not how human behavior works.

That’s not how we build a healthy, long term relationship with food.

It’s about understanding our eating behavior patterns.

It’s about the social emotional patterns.

It’s about nourishment for overall health.

Using the tools and principles of cognitive psychology, in combination with my 15 year experience as a behaviorist, along with nutrition science, I healed my relationship with food, unf*cked my own diet mentality, and reprogrammed my beliefs, and conditioning.
